March 2024 to February 2025

The chart below lists the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program subject areas, the scores required to earn University of Iowa credit, the UI course equivalencies, and information about how earned credit can be applied. Exam results are reported on a seven-point scale, with seven being the highest. The University of Iowa offers credit only for the Higher Level (HL) exams as listed below with the exception of Mathematics, in which credit is offered for some Standard Level (SL) exams as well.

In addition, a score of 5-7 on any Higher Level (HL) "Language A: literature", "Language A: language and literature" or "Language B" exam not listed below may be used to fulfill the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Program: World Languages component. Credit will be awarded the same as in the table below: 6 semester hours (s.h.) for "Language A: literature" or "Language A: language and literature", or 3 s.h. for "Language B".

IB Diploma Programme
Applicants must provide three years of academic records with grades (including IB semester grades) to be considered for admission. The Transcript of Grades is not required to make an admission decision for applicants who have not yet graduated high school but will be required if a student decides to attend the University of Iowa wants to be considered for possible transfer credit. If the IB Diploma Programme has been completed students should provide the Transcript of Grades in addition to the yearly academic records when applying.

IB Career-related Programme
Applicants must take math and science courses to be considered for admission. A career-related programme without math and science is insufficient. Please provide at least three years of academic records with math and science courses (including IB semester grades) to be considered for admission.
