For students transferring to Iowa from another college or university.

The scholarships below are available to new transfer students planning to enroll full time at the University of Iowa during the 2024-25 academic year. Students pursuing a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible for these scholarships. High school students completing dual-enrollment at an Iowa Community College are not eligible for transfer scholarships.

Review deadline information carefully. There are a limited number of awards. All of these scholarships require you to submit your application for admission (and all supporting documents) well in advance of our application deadline. Please see the Scholarship and Grant Policies for information on awarding of the following scholarships.

For students named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Iowa Academic Team

Value

$1,500 a year for up to 2 years

Application

There is no separate scholarship application. 2023 All-Iowa Academic Team members will automatically be placed in the pool for consideration. Limited awards are available so students are encouraged to apply for admission early.

Renewal

Renewable for a second year provided you maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative University of Iowa grade-point average and full-time (12 semester  hours) continuous enrollment at the University of Iowa each semester.

For students named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Team

Value

equal to resident tuition for up to two years

Application

There is no separate scholarship application. 2023 All-USA Academic Team members will automatically be placed in the pool for consideration. Limited awards are available so students are encouraged to apply for admission early. Students awarded the All-USA Academic Team Scholarship cannot also be awarded the All-Iowa Academic Team or PTK Transfer scholarship.

Renewal

Renewable for a second year provided you maintain a minimum 3.00 University of Iowa cumulative grade-point average and maintain continuous full-time (12 semester hours) enrollment at the University of Iowa each semester.

For students who transfer to the University of Iowa within one year of earning their associate degree. This scholarship is available to nonresident students who have only attended a community college in Illinois, no other four year institutions or community colleges outside of Illinois. Students completing their degree through one of Iowa’s Distance Education or online programs are not eligible for this award.

$7,500 a year for up to two years

Minimum Requirements

Requires an associate of arts or associate of sciences degree from an Illinois community college AND a minimum 3.0 transfer GPA at the time of enrollment

Deadline

Eligible applicants must complete a University of Iowa Transfer Application by the following deadlines:

  • Fall Semester – May 1
  • Spring Semester – November 1
Renewal

Up to two years, or until you receive your bachelor’s degree (whichever comes first). You must maintain continuous full-time enrollment at the University of Iowa (fall and spring terms), a minimum 2.0 cumulative UI GPA, and continue to pay nonresident tuition. Renewal reviews are done at the end of each semester.

For new entering community college transfer students who have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application, have maintained a minimum 3.50 cumulative transfer GPA (on a 4.0 scale), and are current members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor SocietyStudents who have earned a Bachelor’s degree are not eligible to be considered for this award.

Students completing their degree through one of Iowa’s Distance Education or online programs are not eligible for this award.

$2,000 a year for up to 2 years

Minimum Requirements

Students must have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application, have maintained a minimum 3.50 cumulative transfer GPA (on a 4.0 scale), be current members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society, and have completed the application on the Iowa Scholarship Portal.

Documentation of your PTK membership must be uploaded via the Iowa Scholarship Portal. Refer to deadline section for additional details.

Deadline

  • New community college transfer students entering Spring 2024 must be admitted; submit the PTK scholarship application by Dec. 1, 2023, and have met merit criteria in order to be placed in the PTK scholarship pool for consideration.
  • New community college transfer students entering Fall 2024 must be admitted; submit the PTK scholarship application by May 1, 2024, and have met merit criteria in order to be placed in the PTK scholarship pool for consideration.
  • A limited number of awards are available and not all admitted eligible PTK members can be awarded this scholarship.

Documentation of your PTK membership must be uploaded via the Iowa Scholarship Portal. Uploading a scanned copy of either your PTK membership card or PTK certificate is acceptable. Do not mail these items to the Office of Admissions. We do not screen for PTK membership notations on transcripts.

Renewal

Renewable for a second year provided you maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative UI GPA and continuous full-time enrollment (12 semester hours) at the University of Iowa each semester.
